Quick answer
Allow two days and one night. Use Day 1 for the timed Zumiao food walk; on Day 2 choose one slower outlying excursion rather than trying to collect every sight.
- Recommended stay
- 2 days · 1 night
- Day-one route
- About 11 hours · roughly 8 km walking
- Transfer breaks
- Two short rides on the main route
- Food budget
- Route-card estimate; confirm current menus
How many days to spend
A focused one-day visit can cover the old-town core. Two days allows the full timed route and one distinct day-two option.
- 1 days: Keep to Nanshan breakfast, Zumiao, lunch, Lingnan Tiandi and one garden stop. Skip the west-side pottery district if time is tight.
- 2 days: Follow the main food-and-heritage route, then choose Xiqiao Mountain, Fengjian Water Town or a lighter Qiandeng Lake evening.
Where to stay
Zumiao / Lingnan Tiandi
Best for: First-time visitors and the old-town walking route
Stay near Zumiao metro for the temple, Lingnan Tiandi and the Guangfo Line. It is the easiest base for the timed first day.
Shiwan
Best for: Ceramics and a slower local stay
Useful if Nanfeng Kiln and the pottery district are the priority, but less central for the old-town food route.
Best time to visit
- Outdoor walking is more comfortable in cooler months; verify outdoor lion-dance performances close to the date because rain and crowd controls can change them.
Getting around
Use the Guangfo metro line and walk the dense Zumiao–Lingnan Tiandi–Liang Garden core. Shiwan/Nanfeng Kiln and the evening Creative Industry Park are separate legs; short rides keep the full route realistic. Foshan West and Guangzhou South serve different rail patterns, so confirm the station on your ticket.
Arriving in Foshan
Limited service; Guangzhou Baiyun is the broader international gateway.
Major rail hub; metro access depends on the exact destination.
Transport notes
Zumiao core
Use Zumiao station on the Guangfo Line for the temple, Lingnan Tiandi and old-town walk. The exact station exit can change with construction; check a live map.
Shiwan and the evening finish
Nanfeng Kiln and Shiwan Park form a west-side cluster. The Creative Industry Park needs a separate short ride rather than a continuous walk from the kiln.
Rail arrival
Foshan West is the main city rail hub; Guangzhou South may be more convenient on some itineraries. Match your hotel transfer to the station printed on the ticket.
A practical 2-day outline
This is the city-level sequence. Open the day-by-day itinerary for detailed stops, timing, meals, transfers and backup options.
Day 1 · Zumiao and Shiwan
A timed food, temple and pottery route
Start with a neighborhood breakfast, reach the Ancestral Temple before its scheduled lion dance, then walk through Lingnan Tiandi and Liang Garden. Take a short ride west to Nanfeng Kiln and finish with an evening meal in the creative park.
Day 2 · Choose one direction
Mountain, water town or a lighter city evening
Choose Xiqiao Mountain for a full nature-and-heritage day, Fengjian Water Town for a slower canal visit, or Qiandeng Lake as an evening add-on after a lighter plan.
Plan sights by area
Zumiao and the old-town core
Shiwan ceramics and evening district
Food to look for
Shunde and Foshan food
The route deliberately alternates a few chosen meals and snacks. Check the Chinese venue name and current branch hours before crossing town.
A smooth Shunde-style milk dessert served warm or chilled.
¥12–30 · Afternoon snack
Booking and access checks
Time the temple before the lion dance
The supplied route research uses the 10:00 performance as its anchor. Check the Ancestral Temple’s current schedule, weather notice and crowd rules on the day.
Check restaurants on the day
Restaurant hours and branches change more often than museum information. Confirm the Chinese venue name, current hours and menu before making a cross-town detour.
Day 1 · timed Zumiao food walk
This long but workable city day keeps the old-town section on foot and makes the outlying transfers visible.
- 08:00
Nanshan Snack Shop · 南善小食店
Begin with beef-brisket rice-noodle rolls or pork-offal congee before the neighbourhood breakfast rush peaks.
The kitchen closes at 14:00 and popular items can sell out earlier.
- 09:10Foshan Ancestral Temple · 佛山祖庙
Enter early, reach the Wong Fei-hung Memorial Hall before the 10:00 lion-dance show, then continue through the temple, Wanfu Terrace and Ip Man Hall.
The performance area can fill; aim to be in position 20–30 minutes early.
- 11:45Steamed ribs and Lingnan Tiandi · 登满园 · 岭南天地
Have lunch beside Lingnan Tiandi, then walk the restored lanes, clock-tower square and preserved shophouses without adding another transfer.
- 13:40Dessert, then Liang Garden · 圆碌碌甜品屋 · 梁园
The Nanshan branch of Yuanlulu only opens in the afternoon. Treat it as a dessert stop before a focused one-hour visit to Liang Garden.
If the temple visit runs long, skip Liang Garden rather than rushing the final-entry time.
- 15:30Nanfeng Kiln and Shiwan Park · 南风古灶 · 石湾公园
Take a short ride west to the working dragon-kiln district. Prioritise the kiln and pottery lanes, then use Shiwan Park as a brief open-air pause.
Reach the kiln well before its daytime closing time; pottery workshops may charge separately.
- 19:00Creative Industry Park dinner · 佛山创意产业园 · 羽筷海鲜大排档
Finish in the former factory district after dark, with seafood at Yukuai or another venue inside the park.
This final leg needs a short taxi; it is not part of the continuous walking core.
Six core places, in a realistic order
The visual route cards point to the related attraction guides; cut Liang Garden first if the day falls behind.

Ten food stops: choose, do not stack
The first six fit the main route or replace one another. The rest are alternatives for a different appetite or location. Hours and branches come from the supplied route research; confirm the venue on the day.

142–144 Funing Road, Chancheng · 禅城区福宁路142–144号
- Hours:
- 07:00–20:00

Near Jihua Park and not on the compact Zumiao core. Save it for another meal or a rainier day.
Day 2: choose one direction

Xiqiao Mountain · 西樵山
Choose this for a full nature-and-heritage day. It needs an early start and should replace, not follow, the urban food walk.

Fengjian Water Town · 逢简水乡
Choose this for a slower Shunde day of canals, stone bridges and boat rides; allow substantial transfer time from central Foshan.

Qiandeng Lake after dark · 千灯湖
Use the lake as an evening add-on after a lighter second day rather than as the sole daytime destination.
Before you set out
- Use Zumiao station on the Guangfo Line for the dense old-town core. Exits C and D place you between the temple and Lingnan Tiandi.
- The complete route is ambitious: roughly 11 hours, about 8 km on foot and two short rides. Cut Liang Garden first if you fall behind.
- Budget roughly ¥180–230 per person for the main eating plan before transport, optional workshops and shopping. A lighter half-day core can be closer to ¥120.
- Restaurant hours and branches change more often than museum hours. Search the Chinese venue name in a live map on the day before travelling across town.
- The 10:00 lion dance is the most useful show for this route. Outdoor performances may be cancelled in rain and the crowd can be capped.
- Most small restaurants may not have an English menu. Keep the Chinese names and recommended dishes visible on your phone.
Local planning tips
- The complete route is ambitious. Cut Liang Garden first if the temple visit runs long so Nanfeng Kiln does not become a rushed last-entry stop.
- Use the Chinese venue names in a live map; several route-card hours and prices are planning references, not a live menu feed.
Common planning mistakes to avoid
- Do not stack both main lunch choices; choose one meal and keep the route moving.
- Do not treat the Shiwan kiln and Creative Industry Park as part of one uninterrupted old-town walk.
How to make the route work
The 10:00 lion dance determines the morning
Starting with breakfast near the temple makes it practical to arrive early, then continue north into Lingnan Tiandi without backtracking.
The route has two real transfer breaks
The old-town core is walkable, but Shiwan and the final evening district are not adjacent. Keeping those transfers explicit prevents an unrealistic single-walk map.
