The source groups several city sights around Lhasa, but it does not establish current hotel availability or the best area for every traveller. Compare current map access with your confirmed arrival and day-trip transport.
Best time to visit
- No month-by-month recommendation is carried over from the older guide. Check current forecasts, road and trail notices, seasonal closures and regional conditions for your dates.

Getting around

Check the Namtso overnight assumption
The classic eight-day route lists Namtso across Days 7–8. A Tibet tourism notice dated June 23, 2026 says overnight stays are prohibited within the scenic area; a Lhasa government notice describes a seasonal shuttle returning to Lhasa. Confirm current rules and transport for your dates.

Can I stay overnight at Namtso?
A Tibet tourism notice published June 23, 2026 says overnight stays are prohibited throughout Namtso Scenic Area. A separate Lhasa notice describes a seasonal day-return shuttle for August 8–October 31, 2026. Both are time-sensitive; check for a newer notice for your travel dates.
